Special Places - Special Relationships
Thursday 2nd September 2010, registration from 10.00 am.
The Roxburghe Hotel, 38 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh
INTRODUCTION
This year for the first time BEFS will be hosting a day-long congress for its members and wider stakeholders in the built environment sector. The theme for the day will be “Special Places-Special Relationships”.
We will be exploring the relationship between people and place; how do people interact with place? What makes places special – and also what makes places work in terms of supporting people in their daily life?
We will hear the Government’s aspirations for people and place – valuing historic as well as creating new, and showcase projects or initiatives which have involved a high degree of community involvement.
We aim to draw linkages between what is happening on the ground and the Government’s national outcomes for ‘sustainable places’ and a built environment that is valued, protected and enhanced.
KEY FEATURES
PRESENTATIONS will explore the theme from different perspectives and include key note addresses from Ruth Parsons, Chief Executive, Historic Scotland and Sandy Robinson, Principal Architect, Directorate of the Built Environment.
The MARKET PLACE will set the scene for exchange of ideas and opinion around the practicalities of delivering places for people: stands will feature projects and initiatives which demonstrate a high amount of community involvement and/or awareness of what a place means for people.
PROJECT SOAPBOX will provide an opportunity, within the marketplace, to showcase exemplary projects that connect people with place: a series of 'snapshot pitches' for projects which show how place is valued, project challenges and learning points.
COMMENT CARDS will capture your views, with feedback to plenary session and congress report.
AUDIENCE
The congress is relevant for BEFS members and practitioners with a particular interest in the realities of making better places for people in Scotland.
WANT TO GET INVOLVED AND SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES?
Share your experiences and promote your project or initiative: we are welcoming organisations to exhibit stands with project focus and give 3-5 minute mini presentations to be delivered at two points within the market place at regular intervals.
